DRC Files Case Against Rwanda at African Court of Human and Peoples’ Rights

Rwanda is accused of supporting the M23 rebel group, which has committed atrocities against civilians in North Kivu, a conflict-ridden region in eastern DRC.

The DRC’s Deputy Minister of Justice, Samuel Mbemba, described the filing as a historic moment, highlighting the years of aggression, resource pillaging, and violence against women and children.

This case follows the DRC’s earlier legal action against Rwanda at the East African Court of Justice, accusing Rwanda of violating DRC’s sovereignty and committing atrocities in the eastern region.

In November, Angola mediated a peace agreement between the DRC and Rwanda, known as the Concept of Operations (CONOPS), which outlines steps to advance peace in eastern DRC.

The Angolan Presidency announced that the Presidents of Angola and DRC will meet for talks on December 15 in Luanda, signaling further efforts towards resolving the conflict.
