A recent poll shows that UK voters prefer prioritizing ties with Europe over the US, amid concerns over Donald Trump’s re-election. 44% of respondents believe the UK’s future lies with the EU, while just 19% favor stronger links with the US.
The survey, conducted between November 25 and 27, comes as Trump plans to raise tariffs on goods entering the US. His previous threats of tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China further highlight the shifting trade dynamics.
The poll also revealed that more Britons trust the EU (49%) than the US (30%). Additionally, 40% expressed distrust toward the US, indicating skepticism about its global economic policies.
Voters also expressed low trust in China, India, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil, with each country receiving less than 12% support. This trend challenges the UK’s “global Britain” strategy to build ties with emerging economies.
Voters who switched from the Tories to Labour also supported stronger EU ties, suggesting it would not alienate the government’s base. With a 2026 EU-UK trade review looming, the government faces growing pressure to strengthen its European relations.
