All is set as the National Assembly of Tanzania – ‘Bunge Golf Team’ is ready to spark again at the East African Inter-Parliamentary Games 2023.
Strong four Bunge golf members have been undergoing training in Dar es Salaam for some time ready for the battle.
Those are Damas Ndumbaro, the Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports; Nape Nnauye, the Minister for Information, Communication and Information Technology; Grace Tendega and team captain Neema Mgaya
Captain Mgaya who led the team to clinch title two years ago, said in Dar es Salaam early this week that all players are in good shape.
Organised by the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), the annual Games golf battle scheduled to be tee off on 10th December, the second round is on 12th, while the third and fourth rounds will be held on 14th and 16th December this year respectively at the Kigali Golf Resort and Villas in Rwanda Capital City Kigali.
The spirited team that put the country into the spotlight after they clinched the 2021 title at Kili Golf Course in Arusha, will return to the competition after missing last year’s event hosted by South Sudan, though due to the unavailability of a golf course in Sudan golf battle was shifted to one of neighbouring countries – Kenya and was staged in Nairobi.
The games bring together Members of Parliament (MPs)’ teams from East African Community (EAC) member countries; Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Tanzania.
Mgaya told the ‘Daily News’ that the Bunge Golf Team has the same hunger to bring back home the title that they could not defend last year.
“The team is in good shape and ready for the battle; we are looking forward to the big show,” she said.
The captain added that the team has been training at the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club course in Dar es Salaam under coach and professional golfer, Geofrey Levelian.
The MPs will compete in different sports disciplines that include the four rounds of 72-hole golf competition.
Coach Levelian has echoed Mgaya saying the team is even better than they were two years ago.
“They’re a lot of improvement in the team, we had good training sessions, I optimist for better results,” said the coach.
